How to Complete a Screenshot (or use the Snipping Tool)

Modified on: Fri, 4 Apr 2025 10:22 AM

The following article provides instructions on a simple way to complete a screenshot. This isn't the only possible method but is a very simple one to follow.

Open the "Snipping Tool" by typing in Snip in the search bar at the bottom of your screen.

Hit Enter or Select "Open".

Alternatively, at anytime, you can press the Windows logo key + Shift + S to start a snip.

The below window will open.

  • Select the Type of Snip: Click on "New" to choose the type of snip you want (rectangular, free-form, window, or full-screen).
  • Capture the Screen: Drag the cursor to select the area you want to capture. The screenshot will be taken and displayed in the Snipping Tool window.
  • If you need to open an area, you can delay the "Snip" by 3, 5 or 10 seconds to allow you sufficient time to bring what you want to copy to the screen.
  • Edit and Save: You can annotate the screenshot if needed. To save, click on the save icon or press Ctrl + S.
  • Use Additional Features: You can also use the ruler and protractor tools for precise measurements if needed.
